Course Description

This professional development session is designed to equip educators with strategies to effectively teach sound-spelling transfer, helping students connect their phonemic awareness skills with spelling and writing proficiency. Participants will explore how students can use their understanding of sounds (phonemes) to map these to letters and letter patterns (graphemes), a critical component of literacy development. The course provides practical tools and activities to support sound-spelling instruction, with an emphasis on developing students’ decoding, encoding, and spelling skills. Educators will also learn how to address common spelling challenges and differentiate instruction for diverse learners.
