Full course description
Asynchronous
No
This asynchronous learning course introduces teachers to Patterns of Power as a meaningful way to integrate grammar instruction into the writing workshop for grades K–6. Participants will explore how grammar serves as the bridge between reading and writing through short, intentional mini-lessons built around mentor sentences rather than worksheets. The course walks teachers through the full invitational routine, including noticing, comparing, imitating, applying, and editing, with classroom examples across grade levels. Teachers will learn how to plan and implement these routines in ways that emphasize meaning, student talk, and immediate application in authentic writing. Throughout the course, teachers will reflect on how grammar instruction can support student agency, craft, and transfer in daily writing instruction. By the end, participants will identify a clear, actionable next step for implementing Patterns of Power in their own classrooms.
